I am back from a fun weekend with my sisters and mom in California visiting my brother!  We had such a wonderful time and it was great soaking in the sun, eating great food, shopping and getting some down time with my family.  Today is Thomas’ 15th birthday so I was up at 4 AM getting a Happy Birthday banner hung, putting a few presents I got him from the trip in birthday bags and getting doughnuts all before he got up for morning weights.

 

A couple of weekends ago, I was helping my family clean out my aunt Jo’s house.  If you didn’t read the post before, she passed a few weeks ago from a hard-fought battle with cancer.  Cleaning the house was a big project and my aunts and uncles worked hard clearing everything out.  There are a few more things to do and it will be ready to sell.

 

 

There were a few special things the family divided up to take home. In her backyard I noticed she had a worn out, Victorian looking table and chairs.  It was weathered and worn but I thought it had potential.  My mom ended up getting to take it, so she asked me to take it home until she could get it to Pittsburg, her hometown.

I did and secretly thought to myself, “I can’t wait to fix this up!”

 

 

The paint was cracking and there were rust stains, but I loved the scrolling patterns and the charm of the table and chairs.  I thought it would be perfect for my moms new fairy garden plant from Red Cedar and could picture us having a hot tea outside sitting in those cute chairs.

 

I took it to my backyard and started washing it.  The birds and bugs sure liked this set as there was lots to clean off.

 

After cleaning, I primed it with this:

 

The primer helped get all the rusted and cracked parts looking the same as the other.  It also helps the next paint stick.

I let the primer dry overnight and then sprayed with this Rust-oleum Chalk paint in Linen White.

 

 

I had to move to the garage because the wind was so strong that day.  Here is a picture after the first coat of chalk paint.  I ended up having to do a couple of coats and used 2 cans.

 

After the chalk paint dried overnight, I sprayed an outdoor sealant on it so it would not rust if left outside and the paint would last.

 

 

I thought the finished project turned out great!

 

 

 

This is the table in my backyard, soon to be moved to my mom’s house.   I love making old things new again!
