Hey everyone! It’s almost August 1, which brings a new month full of fun with football starting, school back in session and summer coming to an end.
It’s also time for a new challenge. This month I will be working towards completing a Fourteener in Colorado.
A Fourteener is a climb of at least 14,000 but no more than 15,000 feet.
I will be preparing for this hike with Patrick the month of August and hiking Gray and Torreys Peak over Labor Day weekend on September 3rd.
- Elevation 14,238 feet
- 25th highest peak in US
- 10th highest summit of the Rocky Mountains
- Highest Point on the Continental Divide in North America
- Located in the Arapahoe National Forest
- 3.5 miles
- 14,274 feet
- Front Range region of the Rocky Mountains
- First climbed in 1861
- 4.5 miles
We are going to get in shape this month from a summer of overindulging. This includes running at least 4 times a week and starting Yoga and Strength.
We will purchase some hiking gear and learn the best way to survive in high altitude without getting sick.
This month I will also be looking and trying new recipes to keep our energy going….(and detox from all the wine we drank this week in Napa). The juicer is coming out of the pantry tomorrow. This is perfect timing as the boys start football practice and school is right around the corner. It will be nice to have some new things for the family to keep the energy high! (I’m thinking energy balls and a healthy version of a Monster Cookie)
One of the best parts of this challenge is that I am going to be hiking with my life long friend Kirsten. We went to school together from 1st grade through high school. She and her fiancé Chris know are experienced Fourteener’s and live in the Denver area.
I’m feeling really excited about this one! I love to hike and be outdoors. We even practiced yesterday in San Francisco.
The preparation is my favorite part of setting a goal. I love the challenge and brain power it takes to set high but realistic expectations and work hard to follow through.
This is going to be AWESOME!
